MemberI've just completed a successful mountain bike racing season and starting to prepare my training schedule for next season. My first scheduled race for 2014 is The El Paso Puzzler 50 mile endurance race on 1/19/14 followed by The 12hrs. of Old El Paso 4 person race on 2/1/14 then the 24hrs. of Old Pueblo 4 person race on 2/14 – 2/16. I was browsing through different training plans on trainingpeaks and was wondering which plan would be best suited for me. I'm 48 years old and a Cat 1 mountain bike racer.

KeymasterThese are very early season races. Do you want to use them as training for bigger goals later in your 2014 season? Are they priority events you want to peak for?

MemberI would like to use them for other priority races later in the season first which would be Tour of The Gila in early May. That would be my only A priority road race, the others will be mountain bike events.

KeymasterHere is how I recommend training for and racing these events to do well and set yourself up for a later peak.
10/7/2013 – Follow the 12 week Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Base Training Plan
12/30/14 – Progress to the Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Build, Peak and Race Training Plan following training plan weeks 1, 2 then skip to week 4 and race El Paso Puzzler on 1/19
1/20/14 – Follow week #11 of the Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Build, Peak and Race Training Plan
1/27/2014 – Follow week #12 of the Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Build, Peak and Race Training Plan and race 12 Hours of Old El Paso
2/3/2014 – Follow week #11 of the Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Build, Peak and Race Training Plan
2/10/2014 – Follow week #12 of the Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Build, Peak and Race Training Plan and race 24 hours in the Old Pueblo

ParticipantHi Lynda, several weeks ago read a reveiw concerning a senior lady-70- completing Leadville and many other endurance rides. Does this sound familar since she stated her plan seemed identical to your endurance plans? best joe aka olecoot
