Hi Linda – first of all – thank you for all you do. Your website rocks, and so far at 5 weeks in I really love your base training plan (I'm using the cat 1 time crunched plan). It's all so professionally done.

My question is about winter training. I'm on the trainer a lot in the winter due to winter/cold/ice and my pretty hectic schedule. The workout on Week 5, day 6 calls for a 20 minute off road TT effort. I can likely make that work off road this weekend, but as soon as the snow and ice hit (which should be anytime now) I'm not going to be able to do this. Is switching this to the trainer an option? I see this same workout coming up in lots of other weeks so I don't want to make a bad choice about this.

My other littler question is.. what does the MTB stand for in many of these workout headers? They aren't all off road so I”m thinking it's not “mountain bike”?

I hope you don't respond to this for a couple of days because you shouldn't be working on thanksgiving! L

      Thanks for the nice words.

When the conditions are unsafe to ride outside, transfer the session indoors. Match the session intensity, duration of interval(s) and recovery periods. Shorten the warm-up and cool down time to shorten the overall duration of the ride. Hitting the target intensity on the trainer fits when the ground is too icy to ride fast.

MTB = mountain bike. Any ride with the MTB header can be done in the dirt. Many of the rides can be done on dirt or pavement. Select the option that fits the area and terrain you ride in best.

      Cheers,

      Lynda
