      Lynda,
I had a good season using the 40+ 50 Mile PR Plan. Thank you for that!

What is the difference between the Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base and Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance? I’m 53 and am looking to increase strength in the off-season.

      Tom,

Great to hear you had a good season using the 40+ 50 Mile PR Plan. Awesome.

The Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base is a well rounded base program including strength and bike training that will build a foundation for a solid race season in 2018.

The Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance is for athletes who have spent their season doing a lot of long slow distance work and need to improve their speed and power on the bike with short high intensity interval training.

What are your goals for 2018?

      2018 Goals are
      1) Move from mid-pack to top 3rd in 4 NUE Marathons. Starting at Mohican in early June.
      2) Shenandoah 100 (so I can check the century box)

My 3 events in 2017 consisted of not pushing hard enough early in the race so I couldn’t make-up the time to meet my goal and having too much left at the end, or blowing myself up at mile 45 because I pushed to hard early thinking I would hold up. My legs would be shot and I couldn’t create enough power to get my heart rate up.

      Tom,

Are you ready to start training now or are you taking an off-season break?

If you are ready to start soon I recommend following 8 weeks of the Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance, all 12 weeks of the 40+ Base and then all 12 weeks of the 40+ Masters 50 miler ending week 12 of that plan at your first NUE marathon in early June.

Although it’s strange to see the TP calendar empty at the moment, I’ve noticed some of you posts mention “ride for fun”. I am going to do that along with weight training (Stength Maint. A&B from 40+ Masters 50 miler plan except a little heavier and fewer reps, squats in particular) for a few weeks.

Then I’ll get into the 12 weeks of 40+ Base plan. Which sadly will all be on the trainer.

      Tom,

Sounds like a great plan. Riding for fun for a while is awesome (and fun 😉
