ParticipantLynda,
I've been sent here by a couple very good local racers who swear by your plans. They suggested the Winter Training plan for Endurance MTB'ers as a good place to start. I put out good power (FTP=301) and have pretty good endurance (but not great anaerobic capacity) but I'm a big guy (6'2″, 240+lbs) so I'm pretty much mid pack in local and regional races. I do better as the distance grows but best results have been due to attrition rates in difficult weather/conditions. I'd love to get to 185-190 long term and greatly boost my W/kg to be more competitive but need to hit some intermediate goals.
I'm not against the Weight Loss plan, but not a huge fan of running or yoga and really enjoy being on the bike. I do have some other nice equipment in the home gym (rower, elliptical, etc) so perhaps other cross training options? I've got the luxury of not working for the next couple months at least so have all the time in the world to be on the bike in case that would factor into modifying the Winter Endurance plan to do longer/lower intensity rides? I can also ride year round here in NC.
I guess my fear with the weight loss plan is losing some of the power I've built by not specifically training on it for 12 weeks. Unfounded fear? I also don't need much help on the diet end as I'm ~85% Paleo and watch the calories pretty closely. If anything I may need to eat more…
Start with Weight Loss plan, and follow with Winter Endurance plan? Modify one or the other? Or?
Thanks in advance for the guidance,
Matt

KeymasterMatt,
If you are already focusing on nutrition and mostly Paleo and don't like running or yoga, I agree the Weight Loss and Base training plan is not for you. Follow the Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance Mountain Bikers.
