DaveKeymasterHi Linda,
I am an endurance MTB athlete ( mainly focus on NUE 100) and looking to do your winter base training plan and 100 Miler best finisher plan.
My first ( B-Race) would be Southern Cross Ultra-Cross race on 2/16/14
Second (B-Race) would be Barry-Roubaix Ultra- Cross race on 3/23/14
First (A-Race) would be Cohutta 100 NUE on 4/27/14
the followed by mostly NUE's all season long and a couple more Ultra-Cross races.
Just wanted to get your feedback and see the best time to start the base training and then I would move right into the 100 Miler best plan.
Thanks,

KeymasterGrant,
Provided you have had at least 2 weeks rest from your 2013 race season, I recommend starting the Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance Mountain Bikers today 10/21/2013!
1/13/2014 take a week off any training plan for extra recovery or to catch up on a missed week.
1/20/2014 start the 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan to peak for your first NUE race at Cohutta 100 with the following additions to your plan:
2/10/2014 insert week #12 of the 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan to be fresh and strong at Southern Cross Ultra-Cross race on 2/16/14
3/17/2014 insert week #12 of the 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan to be fresh and strong at Barry-Roubaix Ultra- Cross race on 3/23/14

DaveKeymasterHi Lynda,
Just saw the reply you posted. I have had one weeks rest since the end of my 2013 race season and a couple days here and there. Now when do you think I should start the Winter Training Plan for Endurance MTB? Would like to start early November. Normally can get up to 2 hours a day during the week or a little more and much more Sat. and Sun. Also I am 41 years young recently but have not been racing long at all. This will be my 3rd solid year coming up. Do you recommend I go with the over 40 plan or stick to the general?
I will keep checking for a reply.
Thanks,

KeymasterGrant,
I do recommend you follow the Masters 40+ 100 Mile Personal Record Training Plan over the 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan
Start on the Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance Mountain Bikers when you are ready. Complete plan week #12 (a rest week) on 1/19/2014. To shorten the plan to fit your time frame miss out week #'s 3, 7 and/or 11.

DaveKeymasterLynda,
If I take the rest of the week and weekend off that will give me 2 weeks off. Then start the plan next Monday will I be able to do the whole winter base without taking weeks out? That is what I would like to do. Can you readjust the dates accordingly. In the meantime I will purchase the 2 plans to get ready for next Monday. Thanks,

ParticipantHi Linda,
Winter endurance base training is going well. I am going to be away on vacation from Nov. 30 – Dec 8. I know there will be a gym of some sort there and hopefully an exercise bike. Wasn't sure how I should possibly change my schedule around? This would be the very end of week 5 and all of week 6.

KeymasterDo the intervals sessions indoors on the stationary bike. Cut the session duration down by shortening the warm-up and cool-down time. Keep the intervals intact.
For the longer endurance sessions either switch days so you can do them at home before you leave or when you return. If that is not possible second choice is to do something else fun outside that will not make you sore or injured. Third choice is to ride the stationary bike again for one hour only.
