ParticipantIn September my XC MTB season finishes and then in January I am planning my first 24 hour event. I am looking at both training plans as it is my first event am I better to stick with 24hr Plan to finish but reading the 24hr Plan PB I already ride for 4 hours weekly etc and have been training for months and racing XC. Am I better to just stick with the First 24hr Event plan though?
Also what is the difference with Training Peaks version and PDF? Thank you in advance. - August 3, 2014 at 11:51 am #11165

KeymasterWhat is your goal for your January 24? Do you want to push yourself and go fast or cruise comfortably?
Training plan FAQ’s are here
Can you tell me what the difference is between the Training Peaks Format vs the PDF format? Why would one choose one over the other? The content is the same in the PDF and TP versions.
Advantages for TrainingPeaks are:
– Analysis features available to add with a paid Premium subscription such as downloading power files, viewing maps and graphs. Here is a chart comparing TP Premium subscription and TP Basic free plan features and costs http://home.trainingpeaks.com/sign-up-personal-edition.aspx
– Online storage of your device files giving you a backup if your local storage fails.
– Training log continuity for a user already on TP and logging data.
– Has a great mobile app.Disadvantages for TrainingPeaks are:
– Have to be online to use TP.
– Has a learning curve some users do not have time for.PDF advantages:
– Simple no frills doc.
– Easy to scroll forwards to view future workouts.
– Do not have to be online to view your PDF. The PDF is easier to scroll forward to view future weeks and workouts quickly.PDF disadvantages:
– Lacks advanced storage and analysis features
There are pros and cons to PDF vs. TP and no real winner. If you will use the tools on TP and don’t mind paying for the extra subscription fee that is a good option. If you don’t think you will use any of the tools on TP and want to save on the extra subscription fee TP charges you can still use the free Basic subscription. If you want the most simple format PDF is the way to go.

ParticipantThank you very much for your reply.
I would like to push myself and do the best I can. I also like a challenge but then I have never done a 24 before so that alone with be a challenge. But if I chose the PB version then you don’t think that would be a bad move?
Thanks also for the links about PDF/TP that was very useful.- August 4, 2014 at 11:26 am #11171

KeymasterI recommend the 24-Hour Solo Mountain Bike – Personal Record Plan for you. This will prepare you to push yourself and successfully finish your 24.

ParticipantHi, I have now purchased this plan and I am very excited to start my training. 12 weeks from my even doesn’t come into play until October though so I am just planning things out.
I have a question though if you don’t mind. The problem I have is working weekends and not every weekend it will be easy to do 5 & 6 hour rides. Is it possible to swap one of them for a mid week ride? Or would that not be a good idea? Is it a case of as long as I am doing all the days training does the order not matter?
Thank you in advance.

KeymasterYes, swap the rides to fit your own schedule best. The order programmed is best but getting them done on the days that fit your schedule is important too. The bottom line is get them done and out of order is much better than not getting them done.
