howdy again, thanks for all the help in the past.

So base training did not go to plan in the least.  Too much life and family tragedy in the way, so all to plan up till mid janurary, then everything hit the fan.  i was pretty non-active for a few weeks but we ended up getting away for XC ski trips every weekend for a month, just to get away and have time alone.

We then said screw it and went back to New Zealand for a 3 week trip, this was a very active vacation with walking, hiking, kayaking, surfing, biking and light mountain climbing.  Ended up loosing 5 pounds over the trip.  Back home built up my hardtail to a gravel road machine and have been out riding.  This weekend is a gravel grinder race and monday is 12 weeks out from lumberjack.  So the question is with a less than complete/structured base training in place, 100 miler finisher or 100 miler PR again this year?

I also may throw in the mohican 100k/or 100 miler if feeling saucy 2 weeks out.  in place of the last long training ride.  Always wanted to do this one but I have to see what works out. I ran the 100 miler finisher for 3 years then did the PR plan last year.

Is there anything I should be watching out for?  I am planning on still trying to trim down over this plan as well to loose more weight.  What about mixing in stair running like what I was doing in the weight loss plan?

thanks for any insight you have

What is your goal for Lumberjack this year? If that your “A” race?

I would ideally like to better my time again this year, this will likely end up being my A race due to limited travel budget.

Probably some more local endurance races for fill this year, there is a nice local michigan series made up of 6/12 and 8 hour races.  Also my normal 48 miler in august that I do every year.

so a more low key year for sure.

I recommend following the PR plan as that is your goal. Definitely ease into it and drop any sessions you are too tired to complete with a quality effort. It is ok to do a little less than the plan calls for, especially in the first 4 weeks.

      One other question.

The legs are feeling a bit better than last year already.  Well I can tell that I do not have the time in yet, but I was feeling kind of flat at times last year with lower leg power.  The gravel race I did over the weekend went pretty well all things considered.  I was 8 mins slower this year, so some time to the lower level of training and some time to a course change that added running up a beach-like road and extra 2track in place of some pavement.  All that on on the 3rd ride of a new bike….

Unsure if that is from a more restful winter or maybe the stair running I got in as part of my plan both before and after everything came off the tracks.

So to the real question, any use/help to add in any stairs in the 100 miler PR plan?

Or just stick with leg strength on the bike?

      Stick with the bike training.
