ParticipantHi Lynda,
I purchased your 100K Finisher plan for the Ouachita Challenge. My goal was to finish in 8.5 hours but I managed a 6:47, which still blows my mind. : ) I could have ridden farther and still had life left in my legs. I'm encouraged and extremely motivated to do more endurance events so have decided to try another 100K in September of this year, using your 100K Personal Record plan.
Since my next big event isn't until September, meaning I will start the 100K Personal Record plan in early July, what should I do until then? What plan do you suggest to build on my current fitness until the 100K plan starts in July?
BTW, I strictly followed the 100K Finisher Plan, missing no rides and only a few core workouts. I've never felt so well-prepared for an event in my life. Your plans are a great value for part-time athletes like me who are on a budget.
Cheers!

KeymasterKaren,
Congrats on nailing your training plan and exceeding your goals at Ouachita – nice work!!
What specifically would you like to improve between now and when you start your 100km PR plan?
Thanks for the nice words.

ParticipantLynda,
Thanks!. It felt so good to train hard and see such good results.
I think having more power in my legs would be great. I am small (5' 5″ and 108lbs) and have a good power-to-weight ratio but have a hard time pushing the bigger gears. I was in my easiest gear during a lot of the Ouachita Challenge. But hey, I guess it worked! : )
Thanks so much, Lynda!

KeymasterDo you have a single speed mountain bike?

ParticipantLynda,
Actually I do. I haven't ridden it much except around the neighborhood. It's completely rigid, which would be my only concern. I am 43 and not so keen on taking that kind of beating on a weekly basis. : ) I could always add a suspension fork though.

KeymasterKaren,
The next plan I recommend you follow is our » Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Base Training Plan.
That plan will improve your speed and set you up nicely to follow on with the 100 km Personal Record plan.

ParticipantThanks, Lynda!
I will most likely have to try the Time Crunched version of the plan you recommended. Currently, about 12-15 hours is the maximum time I can spend on my training per week. I hadn't thought to mention that earlier.
Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to starting another one of your plans! : )

KeymasterKaren,
The time crunched plan will be first class for you. Do one ride a week on your single speed!

ParticipantLynda,
I just purchased the plan. So excited to start another one. And great that I'll get to ride my single speed some. Yay! : )
