ParticipantA while back I asked about training through a 2 week vacation. The family’s OK with me bringing my bike along and me doing some training as long as I can fit it in amongst our trip plans. Until I got into the plan I wasn’t sure what the requirements would really be, so now I’m aware of the real time commitments involved.
I’m on the PR 100 mile plan and will be finishing up week 6 when we’re starting (We are leaving on a Saturday). The issue I’m worried about is the long day 6/7 rides for weeks 6 and 7. I just don’t see myself being able to devote 9 or 10 hours on the weekends to riding. If it wasn’t two weekends of long rides I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but two weeks in a row of that gives me some pause.
Week 8 will be the 2nd week of the vacation, so since that’s an R&R week I figure I’m all set there.
I’m anxious to keep things going as I just participated in the Wilmington Whiteface 100K race this past weekend and smashed any idea of how I’d do with a 5 hour finish time – all the while doing the week 5 training (and a bit more since I couldn’t turn down a long 50mi single track ride the previous Sunday).
What options do I have for substituting other, shorter rides in there?
Thanks,
Mike

KeymasterCan you do your week #6 long rides before you leave for vacation and the shorter rides at the weekend?

ParticipantShould be able to get those in Thursday and Friday with a little bit of help from work. If that’s the case, then I continue to do the weekday rides and do what I can with the week 7 long rides? Or just skip those and get back on track when I return from the trip?
