      Lynda,

I have done my second TT test, which should have been my first but the first time we were having 40MPH winds and it was impossible.

As I was going I felt like crap. They were cutting down trees around the 2.5 mile loop and that bugged me the whole time. I almost stopped so I know my mind played a big part on what I thought was going to be a worst performance then my first. My avg. HR was 188 on my first try and it was 185 yesterday. Overall, I pretty much went faster by .1 MPH and went further by .3 miles.

My question is, what kind of performance improvements should I be seeing? Should my avg. HR be higher, the same? Is it OK that my avg. HR was lower? I'm leaner, lighter and feel stronger than I was one more ago and definitely 6 months ago but my TT results have stayed very, very close.

I know that ask many questions and I wish I could set some time to consult with you or have you as my coach but money is short. As I get better results maybe I can have someone sponsor me and then be able to hire you. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Congrats on your increased performance. Going faster and further is the bottom line. Well done.

Many, many things affect heart rate. It may go up or may go down but it is not a measure of performance. An increase in cardiovascular fitness can be reflected as a lower heart rate. Your heart is stronger and oxygen delivery system more efficient thus it needs to beat fewer times per minute to deliver the required fuel to the muscles.

Some athletes are not good test takers…you may be one of them. Increased performance can be observed in areas other than a test.
