ParticipantI am 48 yr old female, experience with marathons, half ultras, century road rides and have ridden 80 mile mtn bike rides in Bend, Oregon.
I signed up for 40+ 100 ‘finisher’
I routinely ride single track 20 miles after work in 1.5hours
I am new to mtn bike racing and training
So I have a few questions, sorry!I am on the first week, and just did the peddling skills without problems
questions:
1. When doing the peddling skills, I am at the gym on a spin bike (never been on a spin bike before) It felt comfortable to keep the ‘gear’ at 11, average RPM was 85, max was 139(blinked and looked maxed out) and high cadence was 110, avg HR was 125.
Do I need to increase ‘gear’ to say 13 or work harder? or did I do it correctly? Im not sure how I should feel after this training day?2. I already comfortable with riding rolling single track 1.5-2 hours moderate cadence without difficultly, should I really start at day #3 easy ride for an hour? I really want to ride 30 miles this weekend?
Did I sign up for the wrong training program?3. I feel like I am so new to nutrition and training, is there ever anyone I can call and talk too?
Are you able to see my Training Peaks data and help me with my Lactate threshold? not sure I totally understand all of your data points and goals.Thank you so much and this is probably the first of many questions!

KeymasterHi Chicadea,
Thanks for numbering your questions!
1. This should not feel like a hard workout. Your heart rate should not rise above zone 2. I cannot comment on the “gear” as I do not know this number or the calibration accuracy of your machine.
2. Day 2 should have been a max effort for the 20 min TT. Resting on day 3 with a short ride is accurate. Save your long ride for day 6. There is a 3 hour ride on day 6.
3. Ask any simple nutrition questions right here! For in-depth nutrition coaching I recommend you read our eBook Fuel Right, Race Light. You can also chat with sports nutritionist Kelli Jennings RD – she is amazing.
4. I cannot view any data in your TP account. Your account is private.
I am available for consulting and can go over your data and details with you on the phone.

ParticipantLynda,
I just noticed the problem re distance and your comment for question #2, I am signed up for a 100km race and its a 100mile ride. How can I change this?
Thank you,
