      Hi Lynda,

I’m in week 8 of the Masters XC Base plan, planning to stack your workouts for the 2018 BCBR next summer. I’m loving the structure and methodical increases! Our local MTB terrain has no flat areas, just long climbs, long descents.

      1. My HR drops to zone 1 for 10-15 minutes, often 2-3 times, while descending during the longer weekend rides. Do descents count towards total ride time?

      2. Can you explain how longer descents should be viewed in this workout as an example?

“Warm up riding power L1-2 or heart rate zone 1-2. Then ride 30 minutes non-stop in
power L2 or heart rate zone 2, 30 mins non-stop in power L3 or heart rate zone 3, 60
mins non-stop in power L2 or heart rate zone 2.” (Week 7, day 7)

      Thanks so much,
      Sandra

      Sandra,

      1. Descending counts as moving time.

      2. Are there any areas to travel to on the weekends that has terrain to fit this workout?

If not, follow this modified version:
Warm up riding power L1-2 or heart rate zone 1-2 for 20-30 mins. Then ride 30 minutes non-stop in
power L2 or heart rate zone 2, descend in zone 1 for 15 – 20 mins, climb 30 mins non-stop in power L3 or heart rate zone 3, finish the ride time in zones 1-2.

      Lynda
