I’m in week 10 of your Master’s XC 40+ Build, peak, race plan.
Looking to do something different after finishing the plan.

An 8 hour MTB race 8/31/14, followed by,
Fools Gold 50 mile, 9/20/14. I’ve finished this race twice, both times suffering from severe cramps.
After that CX season starts in October and runs through January.
      Plan recommendations?

For the 8 hour race, will you be racing solo or on a team? What are your goals for that event?

Review this article for some cramping prevention tips you can start adding to your plan now. How do I prevent muscle cramping during races?

In the 8 hour I plan to run as a team. It’s held in Florida so it will be hot as hell.

How many on your team? How many hours will you be riding for? What are your goals for that event?

I cannot give an accurate plan recommendation without a good idea of what you plan to do.

      A “B” race.

Stay within my limits, dial in my hydration, nutrition, and be able to push during the later part of the race. I have had a problem with the mental side of these type of races which use a multi lap format instead of larger loops.

Thanks – I like your goals.

6/2 I recommend you take a week off training for rest and recovery.

6/9 follow the 12 week Masters 40+ MTB 50 Mile Personal Record Training Plan ending with a peak performance at your 8 hour team race on 8/31.

9/1 take a low key rest week
      9/8 follow week #11
9/15 follow week #12 and peak for Fools Gold 50.

The strength training maintenance and stretching sessions in this plan are important for you to be diligent with as part of your cramping prevention program. They should fix that issue for you.
