Hi Lynda – I’m interested in starting a training plan for mountain bike endurance racing and stage racing, specifically 40+ Masters plans. I’d like to start with a winter plan that emphasizes strength training and on bike workouts and then move to on bike workouts as the weather starts to improve in the Spring.
My first race will be in mid-June (Bailey Hundo) followed by the Firecracker 50 (July 4th), Steamboat Stinger (beginning of August) and then the Breck Epic in mid-August. My goal is to be super ready and fit for the Breck Epic but also ready for the earlier races.
Any advice on which training plans would be suitable for my goals is much appreciated.

That sounds like a fun summer of racing.
I recommend you start with our Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base Mountain Bike Training Plan and follow all 12 weeks of this plan start to finish. This 12-week training plan includes strength training and riding. Mid-April to mid-June follow the Masters 40+ 100 Mile Mountain Bike Personal Record training plan to peak for Bailey Hundo.
This leaves you with an opportunity Feb – mid-April to do a speed and power block with the Masters 40+ Cross Country Mountain Bike Build Peak and Race Mountain Bike Training Plan
After Bailey Hundo take a little break then follow the Masters 40+ Mountain Bike 5-7 day Stage Race Mountain Bike Training Plan to peak for Breck Epic.
If you post exact dates for all your events I can recommend exactly when to start and end each plan and which week of each plan to follow.

Thank you for the info. Here are the exact dates for the planned races for 2022…
Bailey Hundo (should clarify that it’s now 60 miles and not 100) June 18th
Firecracker 50 – July 4th
Emerald Mountain Epic – Race date hasn’t been published yet but based on this year I’d assume first Saturday of August which is August 6th
Breck Epic – August 14 – 19.
These plans look awesome! So excited to get started. Please let me know exact dates to start each one.

11/15 – Start the Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base Mountain Bike Training Plan follow weeks 1-12
2/7 – Start the Masters 40+ Cross Country Mountain Bike Build Peak and Race Mountain Bike Training Plan and follow weeks 1-7
3/28 – Start the Masters 40+ 50 Mile Mountain Bike Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan and follow all 12 weeks to a peak at Bailey Hundo (60 miles)
6/20 – Take a week off training for a deep rest week
6/27 – Move to the Masters 40+ Mountain Bike 5-7 day Stage Race Mountain Bike Training Plan and follow week 12. Add a day off mid-week to push FC50 race day to Monday 7/4
7/5 – follow week #6 (rest week)
7/11 – follow week #7
7/18 – follow week #9
7/25 – follow week #10
8/1 – follow week #12 Emerald race week
8/8 – follow week #12 Breck Epic race week
