KeymasterI do not have a plan named masters over 40 mt bike endurance. I do have three masters plans. They each have different strength training routines. The answer to your question depends upon which plan you are training with.
Which of these plans are you training with?
Masters 40+ Cross Country Base Training Plan
Masters 40+ Cross Country Build Peak and Race Training Plan
Masters 40+ 100 Mile Personal Record Training PlanLynda

KeymasterJoe,
Resistance bands and body weight works for training plan weeks 1-3 and a gym is best for weeks 4-12.
Weeks # 1 – 3 involve light weights and high reps and will be easy to do at home with body weight and resistance bands. Replace the bench press exercise with push ups.
Weeks #4 – 12 the weight increases and the reps drop on the exercises and you will benefit from seeking out the use of a gym with strength training equipment.
I recommend you seek out a gym for weeks 4-12 of this training plan. Athletes over the age of 40 must work hard to maintain muscle mass. Strength training in the Base period of a race season for a Masters racer is an important time to get this done. Being 74 it is especially important for you.
Check out your local YMCA or community center for options that don't require a membership.
Thanks for posting! I look forward to more questions from you this season. It is not everyday I get the opportunity to chat with a 74 yr old athlete who is still kicking a**. I'm sure you could teach me and a bunch of other LW Coaching peeps a thing or two
