My A-event this year is a 140 km (over 4 km vertical) MTB Marathon on August 29. Since I have run the race two years ago, my goal is a personal record, even though I am 58 years old.
I finished your “Base Training and Weight Loss Plan” on February 2. Because I want to lose some more weight, I have added week #8-12 from “Masters Cross Country Base Training Plan”, currently I’m in week #10.
I have planned a vacation from June 1 to 21 and I will not be able to ride during the 3 weeks. But it will probably be possible to run on some days.
This is why I planned to start the “40+ Masters 100 Mile MTB Race Personal Record Training Plan” on March 9 and finish it before vacation on May 31. Because I will probably lose a lot of fitness during the vacations, I have planned to start the Personal Record Plan again from week #3 after the vacations on June 22, so that I finish it on my A-race.
So, that’s the plan, but I have absolutely no idea if this plan is a good plan. Can you give me some advice.

I like your plan. Make a priority of coming home from vacation at the same weight you started and coming home 100% healthy so you can jump right back into training. Gaining 10 lbs and trying to lose it again after vacation will set you back.
Enjoy! A 3-week vacation sounds amazing 🙂

Thank you for quick response. I’ll have an eye on my health and weight, which might probably not be easy on a road trip from Denver to the West Coast.
One additional question. I have applied all training plans in Trainingpeaks. TP calculates a planned CTL of 58 for August 29. Is this value good enough for a personal record in my A-Race?

The content that makes up your CTL number is a crucial component when looking at the absolute number. A 58 CTL made from LSD is drastically different from a CTL made from quality focused training with intervals and race specific training. A high quality, race specific 58 CTL is a solid value for an A-race. A CTL of 58 with no quality and race specific riding is not. Content counts.
