ParticipantHi Lynda, I’m currently on week 10 of the Masters Cross Country Base Training Plan and I have hurt my shoulder. I have pain along the lower medial area of the scapula, and it’s noticeable on steeper climbs and technical descents. I can stick with road riding or riding the trainer for now but what do I do about the strength training days? (which is Power Endurance A & B this week and then moves on to Max Strength A & B for the following 2 weeks).

KeymasterSorry to hear you have hurt your shoulder. How did you injure it? Did you see a Dr for a diagnosis?
Miss out any strength training that causes pain or discomfort. Beyond that advice, you need an accurate diagnosis to take accurate rehab action.

ParticipantI just noticed it riding the other day, so I’m resting it for now and if it’s still a problem, I’ll go to physio to get it sorted out. So my next question would be, should I pick up where I left off once I can get back to weight training or should I just resume with what’s on the schedule at the time? I’m planning to start the Masters 40+ Cross Country Mountain Bike Build Peak and Race Mountain Bike Training Plan once this one completes. Thanks!

KeymasterIf you only miss out one week, resume with what’s on the schedule at the time. If you miss more than one week, ease back into strength training with lighter weights and higher reps for a couple of weeks before resuming with what is on the schedule.
