As it turns out, I have come to realize my base periods were at the wrong intensity. I focused on building by FTP during the winter months with Sub-LT, LT and Tempo work while not putting in enough time at Level 2 power. MY CTL has only risen to 70 and I have not been able to ride strong at CAT1 local MTB races. I'm can lead the out and hang with the top guys for about 12-15 miles then start to fade.

Can I up my Level 2 rides as I commute to work and back along with a long Level 2 and level 1 rides on Sundays to rebuild by base while in build 1 and 2.

By “up” your level 2 rides do you mean increase your intensity or increase the ride duration or something else? Please be specific.

      Lynda,

“Up my level 2” = up my ride duration.

The CAT1, build, peak and race plan has me on rides no longer than 2.5hrs. I would like to up the Sunday rides to 4-5hrs at level 2 and level 1 intensity.

I also have the luxury of commuting to work and back which can add another 1-2hrs a day. I plan to do these commuting miles on Tues-Thurs at level 2 with Mon and Friday completely off the bike.

Commuting Tue-Thur at L2 is great if you are eating well, sleeping well, nailing your interval target intensity and recovering well.

I do not recommend riding 4-5 hours on Sunday. At the weekend stick to the plan.
