      Dear cocah Lynda
      I am 42 years old and I recently suffered an infection that prevented me from training for a month, I am starting again, my Fitness is 56 and my heart rate is very high, 30 or 35 beats more than what it was.

      I am going to race the Cape Epic on March 24, how do you suggest I recover and start training?

      I have done the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Plan twice and it has been great, any extra changes to add to this plan??

      Xavier,

      Sorry to hear that. It sounds bad to prevent training for a month. A very high heart rate is alarming and you should resolve that issue with medical help before you begin training again. You may still have an infection such as myocarditis which you need to fully resolve prior to building any fitness back for racing.

      Thanks for your advices

      I checked my health with the doctor, my heart rate is much more stable in zone 2, I have added more weights in my training, I still can’t stand the long intervals at the threshold or VO2, but I can hanlde 4 hours in zone 2, my fitness is at 77 and my fatigue at 94 and my form at – 31.
      Would you recommend that I start your base plan training or time crunched in preparation to start the 7 Day Stage Race Personal Record on December 25 to preparation for the Cape Epic in March 2024?

      I have done the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Plan twice and it has been great, any extra changes to add to this plan??

      Hi Xavier,

      Great to hear you have recovered and are ready to train again. I recommend starting back training with our Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base Mountain Bike Training Plan.

      Our 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan is the perfect plan to prepare for Cape Epic. I watched the 2024 course reveal and saw more climbing and more technical stages for this next edition. I don’t recommend any changes to the plan, but do make sure you get in lots of climbing during your longer rides.

      I am finishing the Base for MTB training plan and I should start the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan on December 25, however, this week we have a family trip and I was thinking maybe start the plan earlier, what is the recommendation to adjust the plan?
