Memberhi I am on the second week of training. The intervals asked me to maintain at least 90rpm for 1minx11 with a heart rate of of 5b. I am having a problem getting both done I can either hit above 90 rpm with a low gear but not reach peak heart rate or below 90 rpm (80's) and reach heart rate toward the end of the minute. Not sure if I should concentrate on the rpm or the heart rate as I tried several gear ratios to get the perfect balance and was unsuccessful, thanks for your help. rhonda

KeymasterRhonda,
In this workout the rpm is the higher priority. Don't worry of you cannot get your heart rate up to the 5b zone as 1 min is really too short of a time period to see that happen. Focus more on rpm and effort level in this workout.
Here is a re-written workout descrition that may be clearer:
Warm up riding for 10 minutes by starting easy and gradually increasing the pace until you are sweating. Then do 11 x 1 minutes at fast pace and at a fast cadence. Aim for 90+rpm cadence during the 1 minute intervals. Take 3 minute recoveries between each interval pedaling at an easy pace. Finish the ride time at a super easy pace.
