MemberLynda,
my friend and I have secured an early bird entry into the 2013 Cape Epic! We finished the Transalp Challenge two years ago and rode several 100 k races.
- What is your suggestion for stacking plans as preparation?
- The challenge in preparation is that now, during summer, high training volumes are possible, during the last few months cold weather and snow will be a limiting factor for long rides. Many workouts will have to be replaced by trainer rides.

KeymasterAndi,
Congrats on getting a Cape Epic slot!
These are the two plans I recommend stacking prior in the 6 months prior to Cape Epic.
Sept 24th start the Winter Training Plan for Endurance Distance Mountain Bikers
Dec 17th take a week off training
Dec 24th start the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Plan ending at a peak on CE race week March 11th.
For both of these plans most of the longer ride sessions can be done on skis outside rather than pound the trainer for hours. The shorter weekday workouts with intervals are good to do on the trainer. A couple of trainer sessions per week and endurance cross training outside is a good combo and works with the above two plans.
The optimal plan to follow from now until Sept 24th depends on your race schedule and event goals during this time period.
