Tomorrow I’ll be doing the first power test of my training program. Since it’s going to be 15 degrees outside when I do this before work, I’m using the trainer (no big deal- my indoor and outdoor power numbers match well). The workout is synced from Training Peaks to my Wahoo Elemnt computer, which should communicate with the trainer. This is the first time I’ve used this exact setup for a test (training peaks/elemnt/kickr), and I was wondering if the trainer would be in “normal trainer” (where you control resistance by shifting) mode the whole time for this combination.
I’ve used TrainerRoad in the past, and it will run in erg mode (where it controls the resistance based off of your previous FTP) for the warmup, then switch modes for the test portion of the workout so you can shift to change the resistance.

Riding in erg mode (where it controls the resistance based off of your previous FTP) for the warm-up, then switching modes for the test portion of the workout so you can shift to change the resistance is best.
