ParticipantHi Lynda,
Finished the Winter base training plan which was excellent!
Did that between Oct 28 – Jan 20. Actually finished with a bang as on my ” do whatever you like” day I got in 101 miles on my Fat bike. The next plan I was going to purchase is the 100 Miler best finisher 40+.
I want to peak for my First 100 ” Cohutta 100″ on April 26. I know I need 3 months for this plan so the 2 questions I have are: 1.)When should I start the plan? 2.) Should I just use the Winter base training program till I start the 100 Miler plan?
Also I have a couple of Ultra cross races (50-60 milers) in between. You said to use week 12 ( taper week) before each race correct?
I am pumped to start the next stage and feel great and much stronger and faster already!
Thanks,
Grant

KeymasterGrant,
Thx for the nice words about my training plan.
To peak for Cohutta you start the Masters 40+ MTB 100 Mile Personal Record Training Plan on 2/3/14. That only gives you a couple of weeks to spare. I recommend you start the 100 miler plan asap and use the spare weeks to insert an extra week #12 when you have an Ultracross race.

ParticipantHi Lynda,
So you want me to start the 100 Miler plan next week or on 2/3/14?
I understand what you are saying about week 12 ( taper week) having that to throw in there for ultracross races and so it does not disrupt my 100 miler plan.
Also wanted to add that my first Ultracross race (Southern Cross) 2/22/14, so I would need a taper the week of that race.
I was taking a couple days off due to a little strain in my back. But could probably start the 100 Miler next week if you want. If I am starting on 2/3 I will just continue with doing training from the winter base.

ParticipantHi Lynda,
4 days ago I tweaked my back a bit and am taking this week off the bike. Not sure about the weekend? and if all feels well with it will be starting the (100 best finisher 40 +) next Monday the 27th. My initial thought before the injury was to continue with the training and go right into the new plan, but probably not a bad idea to take a few days off before starting the next plan? If I cannot start the plan on the 27th I will contact you and go from there. Thanks for everything!

ParticipantLynda things are going good in the 40+ 100 Miler best finisher program. I have a 50 mile ultracross race next Saturday (B-race) and think my best bet is just to stick with the plan the way it is. This Week 3 is a much easier recovery week and I would hate to do a week 12 recovery week next week before this race having 2 recovery weeks in a row.
I will probably just have to miss out on next Sunday of week 4 as I will be getting in a good 3.5 – 4 hours on Saturday's Race day. Then I noticed week 5 is a tough one so hopefully with rest Sunday and Monday I can spring into Week 5 and do my best. “Elevated Legs should help my recovery time for sure!
Any thoughts? I want to do well at Southern Cross but it is not an A race for me and it is early in the season as well.
