Hi Lynda. I am currently a CAT 2 cross country racer that rides about 7-10 hours a week racing most weekends. I signed up for Leadville but unfortunately did not get in. Now I am planning on giving one of the qualifiers my best shot. The problem is, as I’m sure you know, they haven’t announced the details of the races yet. Sounds like the details will be out by the end of March but I feel like I am wasting training time waiting for the info to be announced. Rumor is the qualifier will be in June, which puts it about a month or so into your 100 mile race plan if was training for the Leadville race. I have done endurance races in the past and if I get in I would like to use your PR 100 mile plan with a goal of coming in under 9 hours.

      My questions:

Can I start training for this qualifying race that I don’t know the details of yet then adjust my plan once I do know the details? If I do qualify, with the shortened timeframe, how would I train for Leadville? Is there a way you can recommend to switch up the PR 100 mile plan to work with this situation? I’m sorry for the unknown factor, maybe training for the qualifier is a bit premature at this point. Please let me know your thoughts.

      Thanks!

      Chad

      Chad,

Bummer you didn't get in. Lots of athletes in your position.

Hi Lynda, they announced the qualifiers for Leadville. I will be doing the Lake Tahoe Trail 100k on July 10th. This puts me at about 14.5 weeks out from race day. I see that you have a 100k plan as well. Should I switch over and use the 100k plan instead of the 100mi plan? I am currently on wk2 day 3 of the 100mi PR. Since your plans are 12 weeks what should I use over the next 2 weeks? I am planning on doing a couple of XC races over the next two weeks that I would like to work in, Kenda Cup/Riverside and Sea Otter. My end goal is to absolutely crush the Tahoe Trail 100k race, give it my all and with a bit of luck get into Leadville. I am ready to put in some serious work and put myself in the best possible shape for this race. Let me know your recommendations.

      Thanks!
