      I have used your plans
‘7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Plan’ for Cape Epic in 2017 and last year the ’40+ Masters mountain bike 3-4 day stage race training plan’ for Lanzarote 4-stage race the last 2 years.
      Both with quite good succes….thanks!

I was planning on doing the 4-stage race at Lanzarote this year as well and in Wk 9 of the ’40+ Masters mountain bike 3-4 day stage race training plan’ (88 CTL, 89 ATL and -13 TSB).
However I’m pretty sure the race will not happend due to Covid19…

      So now I’m looking at

      Home

Which is a very tough 8 dages race with approx 28,000hm and quite long stages (limit 12h)
Much of the race is in steep mountains and it involves a fair amount of Hike’a’bike..You sleep in your own tent, but you need not to carry luage+tent during the stages (it is transported)

I was planning to do the ‘7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Plan’, but saw that you have another option – the ‘Bikepacking Mountain Bike Race Training Plan 5-10 days’….so which one do you recommend for the Iron Bike?

If anyone have tried the Ironbike – please let me have your experience!

And which plan would you reccomend doing before? (31 wks until the race)

Thanks in advance, and Happy new year!

      Hi Onlynine,

Iron Bike is a challenging event and looks amazing!

I recommend following this plan stack
Jan 4th follow the 12-week Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base Mountain Bike Training Plan
March 29th follow weeks 1, 2, 4, 3, 4 of the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan

May 3rd restart the 7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan and follow all 12 weeks to a peak on July 24th at Iron Bike.

      Happy New Year to you!

      Hi Lynda,

I have looked a little more and I have 2 additional questions

      Since I like 2 hard weeks followed by 1 less hard week, could it make sense to do the weeks in ‘7-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race – Personal Record Mountain Bike Training Plan’ from March 29th as follows;

      29-Mar WK1
      05-Apr WK2
      12-Apr WK4
      19-Apr WK1
      26-Apr WK2
      03-May WK4
      10-May WK2
      17-May WK3
      24-May WK4
      31-May WK5
      07-Jun WK6
      14-Jun WK7
      21-Jun WK8
      28-Jun WK9
      05-Jul WK10
      12-Jul WK11
      19-Jul WK12

Second question: The amounts og hours/tss between the two plans are somewhat big – so I was planning to beef of the hours/tss in the end of the base plan a little to prepare me for the hard training.
If so – what is the best; to increase a little over all the days in the week or to increase a couple of days more (so a few longer days)

      thanks in advance

This schedule frpm 29-Mar to 19-Jul looks good.

I do not recommend an increase in the training volume during the Masters 40+ Mountain Bike Base Mountain Bike Training Plan. Strength training needs energy and time during this plan and is important to set you up for an injury free season.
