DaveKeymasterLynda: OK, I have searched at the Training Peaks website as well as a bit on the forums here and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. It's probably a pretty basic question and I feel a bit timid asking it because it's probably an easy solution and the answer available right in front of me, but for whatever reason I may have overlooked it.
Here goes…
I need to insert a business trip into my training plan which I purchased through Training Peaks. It is your base building plan for Masters 40+ Cross Country Mountain Bike Base Training Plan. I will need to leave on the 4th day of week 9 (which would be February 28th for me) and return on the last day of week 10 (which would be March 10th for me) due to a business trip to Germany. I have no idea what will be available to me on my trip (hotel gym, maybe a spin bike, etc…). I just don't know. I would be able to do some core work in my room and could always bring my jogging shoes to do some non-cycling work.
How do I insert this break in the plan at Training Peaks and what would you suggest I do – or try to do if no bike is available (exercise, spin, or normal) for those 10-11 days?
Thank you in advance. I have really enjoyed the training plan to date (started on December 31st). My 51 year old body is coming to life!!!

KeymasterThere are several options for you.
Do you have space in your calendar to take a week off training and move the entire plan forward by one week?
Great to hear your 51 year old body is coming to life!

ParticipantYes, I could do that. I was able to cut and paste the weeks so that February 25th to March 11th are now blank on the Training Peaks screen. When I return, I will continue and finish with the final 4 weeks of base beginning on March 11th.
I assume I can just insert some work on February 25, 26, 27 (I’ll still be here). And do some sort of core work/gym work in the hotel over in Germany to maintain fitness. Be that what it may….

KeymasterI recommend sticking to the plan in week #9 (February 25, 26, 27) for the first three days. Then head off on your business trip. Week #9 is a rest week so focus on recovery while you are travelling. Stretch a little daily, do some core work. Find a stationary bike to do a few 30 min recovery spins. Do some walking and sightseeing – easy recovery stuff. If you do have access to a quality gym you can do week #10 strength training sessions.
When you return home start back up with week #10. Don't make up anything “missed” in days 4-7 from week #9.

ParticipantThanks Lynda. I appreciate the help. I will begin week 9 as you say for the first 3 days and then do what I can do on my trip and pick up with week 10 when I return. I'm pretty sure I will be doing quite a bit of walking and I will look for a stationary to do some recovery spins. I might even enjoy a good German beer or two… 😉
