      Lynda,

I’m 53 and have 17 weeks to train for a 160km event with 4,000m of ascent (and descent). Been doing a few weeks of 50-60min endurance Zone 3 spinning 2-3 times a week, but now need to step it up. Losing 10kg before the start line would be good.

I’m thinking 5 weeks of the weight loss program followed by the 40+ 100 mile PR, as there’s no 40+ finisher option. I like the idea of the increased recovery in this and think it would help me cope with the higher intensity work. Happy to do plenty of strength work too.

Also, in general how do your plans work with commute cycling?

      Your thoughts would be appreciated.

      Thanks
      Carl

      Carl,

5 weeks of the weight loss program followed by the 40+ 100 mile PR is a strong combo. I recommend that.

All of the weekday workouts can be split in half and done during commuting time. Starting your ride early or taking a longer way home from work can be needed if your commute is short.
