ParticipantI am curious what others think about the caloric burn during the XC Race warm-up routine. Today was the first scheduled practice of that in my 12 week build, peak, race Masters XC program. I tracked it with my power meter and heart rate monitor to get an idea of the energy requirements. In prior years, I went only on perceived effort for warm-ups, so this was the first “accurate” attempt at following the prescribed warm-up fron Lynda’s plan.
Here was the prescribed 45 minute routine…
“Practice your XC race warm up today on your road bike or mtb: 5-10 mins of easy power L1/HRZ1 spinning, 5 mins of power L2/HRZ2, 5 mins of power L3/HRZ3, 5 mins of power L1-2, 1 x 1 min power L4, 3 mins power L1/HRZ1, 1 x 1 min power L5, 1 min power L1/HRZ1. Then finish the ride time in power L1-2/HRZ1-2.”
At the end of the warm-up and 45 minutes, TP claims I had burned 488 calories. Provided I’ve got a 75-100 minute race following the XC warm-up – any thoughts on fueling needs before, during and after the warm-up to make sure I have not drained my tank for the actual race to follow?
TIA

KeymasterUse 545 calories as your energy target rather than 488.
