      Lynda,
I’m a 54yo male training for my second SnF400 Sept 8, 2021 and I would like to fit in a moderately aggressive (for me) completion of the Boise Trail Challenge starting June 17 (275 miles, 40k vert, complete in 5 or 6 days ideal, I took 12 days last year with a couple healing cracked ribs from early may).

I’ll finish up Masters MTB Base on March 7 and plan to move into Masters CC Build Peak March 15 then begin Bikepacking Race TP 2-5 Days on June 14. This stack is optimum I think For SnF alone but how would I best prep for and insert the Boise Trail challenge (week 1& 2 of Bikepacking training) and best prepare between now and then for all that climbing, then recover and build for SnF? I’m thinking sub the Trail Challenge riding for weeks 1-2 of the bikepacking set which puts me into a recovery week 3 then just carry on?

      Thanks for any feedback:-)

      Hi Rod,

Subbing the Trail Challenge riding for weeks 1-2 of the bikepacking plan and taking a deep rest in week 3 is a solid option. I recommend doing lower hours and lower intensity days 1-5 of week 3 then getting back on the plan as-is day 6 and 7.

I do recommend spreading the challenge riding over two weeks, rather than cramming it into 6 consecutive days. This will give you a fitness bounce, rather than pushing you into an over-trained state.

To prepare, stick to the Masters CC Build Peak with a focus on quality and recovery. Take it easy the week of 6/7 so you start the Challenge rested and you will be ready.
