MemberI've been on the 100 mile finisher plan for the Barn Burner on June 2nd. I plan to ride for 10 hours this weekend (9th week). I did 8 hours on the 8th week and felt strong enough to do a couple more hours.
My real question is, would it be a bad idea to do a big 'adventure' ride 12-13 days before the race? Some friends are planning a 100 mile loop that will involve about 10,000ft of climbing and I'd like to go. We are all around the same fitness level, so I won't be struggling to keep up. I think it would end up being an all day, 12+ hour ride and a reasonably slow pace. Is that too much too close to the race? I've done the climbs on this ride before and they usually end up being Zone3-4 due to difficulty and altitude.

KeymasterYes that is too much if you want to be fresh and ready to go at Barn Burner.
Do the adventure ride after Barn Burner and rock it with your Barn Burner fitness. Sounds like a good one to do on the summer solstice.
