ParticipantHI! I finished revisiting racing in 2013 with a few endurance races with significant improvements thanks to your plans. In 2014 I am looking at 2 “B” races (early season) and 4 “A” races. The first race is 6hr solo or 12 hour 2 person team in January, then I move into 50mile plus races, Feb 19 and mid April . I cannot keep up with the 100km PR plan through the holidays. What do you suggest? Time crunched Cat 1 B P R plan or base? And when should I begin a more intensive endurance plan? I would like to continue to improve my speed and strength.
Thanks.

KeymasterCindy,
Please list date and distance/duration of each race and priority. Sorry I could not decipher this from your post.
Listing questions as #1, #2 etc is helpful for clarity also.
Thanks,
Lynda

ParticipantSorry about that.
Races:
Jan 18 will ride either as 6hr solo or 12 hour 2 person team. Approximate distance: 50 miles. “B” race. 6,000 ft climbing.
Feb 19 is 50 miles. “B” race. about 6,000 ft climbing. About 6 hours.
April 12, 64 mile. “A” race. 9,000 ft climb. Last finish: 7:58
April 26, 50miles. “A” race. Whiskey 50. New ride for me, unknown duration…6 hours?
June 7 repeat of race 1. “A” race.
October (mid) repeat of race 3. “A” race.
Tentative 7th race to finish series will be 11/8/2014. 6 hr solo or 12 hour 2person. “A” race.
Question #1: Which plan should I do through the holidays with a time crunched schedule to maintain a solid base?
Question #2: When should I start a more intensive endurance plan in preparation for the April and beyond races. Also, which one? 100km PR?
I hope this is more clear.
Thanks.

KeymasterCindy,
I recommend you follow the TIME CRUNCHED Category 1 Cross Country Mountain Bike Base Training Plan during the holidays.
Start the 100 km Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan on 1/20/2014 and follow all 12 weeks to a peak at your first “A” race on 4/12. During this time rest a few days prior to any races you have and recover properly after each race before getting back on the training plan. Do not make up any missed sessions.
4/14 follow week #11 100 km Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan
4/21 follow week #12 100 km Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan to peak again for Whiskey 50.
4/28 take a week off plan for recovery
5/5 restart the 100 km Mountain Bike Race – Personal Record Plan at week #8 and follow it to a peak on June 7th
6/9 take a week off plan
6/16 do a recovery week
Then reassess your goal for the remainder of the season and re-plan out how to achieve them.

ParticipantHello,
I was just notified of a crucial change in my race plan and thus I believe the plan that you posted for me will change.
My April 12 race was moved to May 24! All other races are on schedule.
Will I simply move the start date of the 100Km PR plan to a later date to coincide with the first “A” race being April 26 and continue on with the Time Crunched Base plan?
Thanks for the input.

KeymasterExactly. Move the start date of the 100Km PR plan to a later date to coincide with the first “A” race being April 26 and continue on with the Time Crunched Base plan.
