Gooseberry Mesa Women’s MTB Skills Camp Oct 30 – Nov 1, 2015

GooseSkillsCamp1

If you are an intermediate to advanced rider, ready to improve your technical mountain bike riding skills, we’d love to have you at our LW Coaching Gooseberry Mesa Women’s MTB Skills Camp, Oct 30 – Nov 1. We are limiting this camp to 10 riders to ensure high quality personal attention. Camp will start with foundation MTB skills and progress quickly on to the technical ride features found on the world-famous Gooseberry Mesa trail system. We will be following LW Coaching’s philosophy for improving technical MTB ride skills, which is to build a solid foundation, then work up gradually, building skills, confidence and commitment. Watch our MTB skills development videos and review our MTB skills development template here to see what we have in store for you at camp.

“I had so much fun and learned a ton of new skills, doing things I would never have tried before. This was absolutely the best experience, I loved it!” – Amy Hall Osness

At this camp we will specifically be working on balance, line selection, commitment and riding the mesa trails cleanly with skill. We will not be working on high-speed downhill skills.

FAQ’s

I’m not sure if this camp is right for me. How do you classify “intermediate” or “advanced” rider?

If you are all of the following then this camp is for you!

  • Confident riding single-track.
  • Several years’ experience off-road.
  • Fitness required to be outside and active all day for 3 days.
  • Still smiling after 3 hours in the dirt.
  • Have “game” and are eager to focus and learn new skills. We will be starting with foundation skills, like lifting your front wheel and slow speed balance, but we will zoom through them quickly and spend the bulk of our time on the more technical Gooseberry Mesa features.
  • Contact lynda@lwcoaching.com if you’d like to chat further about if this camp is right for you. So far most ladies interested have expressed they are quite intimidated by Gooseberry Mesa riding and unsure they are ready for this skills camp. We will teach you how to ride these trails one baby step at a time!

Have you had women in these camps that have significant food restrictions? Do they just need to bring all of their own food?

Chef Jay is amazing and can accommodate most dietary requests if details are provided two or more weeks in advance of camp. The earlier you let us know the better for Chef Jay so he can design our camp menu to fit. Part of the reason I love camp is so I can eat his meals all weekend – it is a treat 🙂

What type of bike is best for this camp?

First of all, a bike in excellent mechanical condition is required. A dropper seat post is highly recommended. A cross-country or trail full-suspension MTB is best for this camp. A hard tail MTB with front suspension is great also. We do not recommend a heavy long-travel FS downhill bike. Any gearing is good for Gooseberry Mesa. We do not recommend bringing a single-speed but if that is all you ride, you are welcome at camp and we recommend a 32 x 21 on a 29er bike. We do not recommend a fully rigid bike, but if that is all you ride, you are still welcome at camp with it because you are way tougher than we are 😉 !!

Cancellation policy

After booking the camp, you have a 14-day cancellation window. In this two-week time, we will refund 100% of your fees. After those first two weeks, we will refund 50% until 6 days prior to camp. Any and all cancellations six or less days prior to camp or no-shows at camp receive no refund regardless of booking date.

Inclement weather policy

Excessive rain can make the dirt-road access to Gooseberry Mesa difficult to impossible. In case of inclement weather, a sliding-scale refund for camp fees will be determined based on the amount of camp that was completed before cancellation. LW Coaching and Gooseberry Yurts will not refund any travel expenses or fees incurred by clients. In an effort to plan for unexpected personal emergencies, health issues, weather, and transportation problems that might cause you to cancel or shorten your trip, travel insurance is highly recommended.
